On Saturday January 29th, I had the pleasure of serving on a panel of judges for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Vincent J. Apruzzese Trial Moot Court Competition. This is the second year that I have volunteered for this duty, and both times I have been just overwhelmed by the high level of advocacy demonstrated by these high school students. The kids are superbly coached and they have poise, energy, eloquence and passion in abundance.
My friend Rick Orr, Esquire sat on my panel and he remarked at how uplifting it is to see young people who work hard and show great dedication and talent. They are a real antidote to the negative stories that we all hear.
On a somewhat sad note, I learned that some schools have dropped the competition because of funding issues. It is a shame that something so valuable is discarded because of budgetary issues.
