Barron & Posternock and the Cornell Glee Club

Cornell University Glee Club

On January 13, 2010 the renowned Cornell University Glee Club gave a wonderful concert at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The group is on a ten day tour and the day before gave a concert at the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. in honor of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Cornell graduate.

Barron & Posternock, LLP was a sponsor of the Philadelphia event as part of our efforts to be supportive of the arts and worthy organizations. Truthfully, it was not a big deal, but because of the generous spirit of the club’s 38 members our contribution became part of a much greater effort: aid to the earthquake victims of Haiti.

At the start of the concert, the club’s conductor, John Rowehl, announced that the club unanimously voted to donate the proceeds of the event to relief efforts for the victims of the horrible devastation in Haiti. That meant that our sponsorship dollars will be used in a most meaningful way, and for that we commend the Glee Club for its generosity of spirit and commitment to the common good. It is nice to know that young men (and women), even in these troubled economic times, have real compassion for others.

We enjoyed another positive emotional note from the concert. For the last set of songs about ten alumni, former members of the club, joined in to sing traditional Cornell songs. The eagerness and joy that the alumni displayed in participating in something they treasure was both obvious and uplifting. If middle age men can glow, those fellows were glowing. It was a nice, even poignant, moment.
